Falling In And Out Of Love With Blogging

I want to take the time to write something a bit different today. I feel like my relationship with blogging has been changing over the last little while and I just want to have a chat and get some opinions on the situation.

I feel like I have a lot on my plate at the moment. Work is stressful and when I get home at the end of the day I’m exhausted. I really enjoy writing but some times I just don’t have the energy. I have a lot of photos and loads of post ideas but I sometimes don’t have the right mind set to sit down and spend some time to share my thoughts. I also feel like the blogging community just isn’t the same as it used to be. There used to be blogger chats on Twitter in the evenings and people would share their links and tips and tricks about their favourite beauty products. Now I see a lot less of that and more people commenting just to promote their own content, so many bloggers don’t take the time to read others posts, and you can tell from the meaningless comments I see around on everyone’s blogs. I also see a lot of blogs I used to love reading, with no new content, particularly when the writer has a YouTube channel as well. Its rare that I see a popular YouTuber that started as a blogger, still blogging today. It makes me sad, because I know making and editing videos is not a 5 minute job but its almost as if the beauty community has lost its passion for written content and a good old fashioned review. Another platform that’s becoming and increasing difficulty for content creators is Instagram. I’ve lost count the amount of times I’ve been shadow-banned, and the new algorithm makes it incredibly difficult to reach new people with your posts. Its almost as if social media is working against content creators instead of working with them. There was a time when I was dedicated to posting every day on Instagram and I’d make sure to share the love on posts I enjoyed from my followers, but now I don’t see all my followers post and its hard to see the content I actually want to. There are of course, a lot of people in the community who are still really passionate and dedicated and I admire their enthusiasm to keep going. I just feel like there was a time when everyone and their dog was writing and reading blogs, but now it doesn’t seem like a place people turn to when they want to share their thoughts.

What are your thoughts on the changes to social media and the blogging community?
