April Beauty Favourites!

I haven't rounded up my monthly favourites in forever! I thought today might be a good day to share them with you as I have a mixture of new and old goodies here. Its also been a pretty crazy month for me, but I'm just happy I'm back on board with blogging again. This year is seriously flying by! But i'm having so much fun making more youtube videos and getting more posts up on the blog.

Fist up I've been loving the Makeup Revolution Flawless Palette, its super affordable for the amount of colours you get and the quality is absolutely amazing for the price point. I've been reaching for it over some of my high end palettes lately! Definitely a brand to check out. The Bobbi Brown Tinted Eye Brightener has a new found place in my heart, it gives all the colour correction I love of the pot corrector version but without any of the creasing or caking. Extremely pricey but extremely worth it: the By Terry Ombre Black Star in Frozen Quartz, its an amazing cream stick eyeshadow that literally lasts all day, even without a primer. Its also a stunning shade to sweep on in a hurry (it makes it look like you had time for life). Ive been wearing the Barry M Gelly Nails in Prickly Pear pretty much non stop recently, its the perfect combination of lilac and blue and is a great shade for spring. Last but not least, the MAC Cream Colour Base in Pearl has been getting some serious love. It literally gives me the best glow to my skin and it manages to look kind of natural too, I'm all about the cream highlight recently!

These are my picks for this month but let me know about yours in the comments below!

Benefit Hervana Good Karma Face Powder Blush!

Hey everyone! I'm back today with a review of a quite recent purchase. If you know me, you'll know I'm a total blush fanatic (or hoarder as some like to call it) and I've been eyeing up this beauty from benefit for a while now. I finally caved and picked it up, and I think its the perfect blush for spring!

First of all, the quality of benefit blushes are amazing. Zero chalkiness and perfect pigmentation makes a super bendable and easy to use blush. Also, it wouldn't be a benefit review without mentioning the super cute packaging right? The pretty purple hued, dreamy, clouds make my dressing table look wonderful. The blush itself is a mixture of four shades; a pale cream, a light peach, a mauve pink and a brighter peachy pink. Combining all of these together makes for a really lovely peachy pink on the cheeks. I peachy blushes are my favourite, I feel they really compliment my pale complexion and they look great when I'm a little more tanned too. I find Hervana is really brightening on the face and its not too intense so it goes with pretty much everything! Its matte too which I quite enjoy, its nice to combine with different highlighters for a glowy look. Personally I love this and think its a great choice for anyone who wants a pretty, natural blush that isn't going to steal the show!

Whats your favourite blush?

My Essentials For A Perfect Manicure!

When it comes to painting my nails, I'll admit I'm no professional but I've been following a few steps recently which make such a huge difference! I find that keeping my nails slightly shorter and keeping my hands hydrated makes painting my nails much easier. Also I've changed up how I've been taking my blog photos recently so let me know what you think!

When it comes to perfecting my manicure, I always start by using a cuticle remover. This basically softens the cuticles and means you can push them back much easier. I really like the gel cuticle remover from Sally Hansen, I find it softens everything up really quickly and it's nice and moisturising too. I then like to use a cuticle pusher to gently push my cuticles back, I don't push them too much just enough to keep them neat. I then take some cuticle nippers and trim any excess cuticle and any rag nails, this makes everything look a lot tidier. For the nails themselves I file them into a rounded shape and use a buffing cube with different textured sides to make sure the nail surface even without any ridges. I then paint my nails! I don't use a base coat because I haven't found one that makes a difference to how long my polish lasts. If you've got any recommendations for a good one please let me know! I finish everything off with the Seche Vite top coat, this stuff is seriously amazing. Not only is it super fast drying, it adds a super glossy shine that makes your nails look like gel nails! I also find that my polish lasts so much longer when I use this too! Lastly when my nails are dry I make sure to moisturise my cuticles so they don't dry out. My favourite product for this is the Burts Bees Lemon Cuticle Butter, it smells amazing and it moisturises my nails so much! I hope this out has been helpful and let me know if you've got any other tips for doing your nails at home!

Gosh Forever Lip Shine!

I'm all about lip products right now if you can't tell! These are however, pretty amazing especially for the price point! I've been favouriting these over a lot of other things recently and I wasn't even that sure I'd get along with them to begin with!

I totally love lip pencil type lipstick things.. Ever since the Clinique Chubby Sticks I've been hooked on the easy application and convenient packaging! These have an improvement though, they're slightly slimmer than your usual chunky lip pencil which I think is definitely a benefit. It makes applying darker shades much easier and gives a lot more precision! They also have a beautifully creamy texture on the lips which isn't too heavy and they have a pretty vanilla scent - similar to Mac lipsticks. They have some beautiful shades in the range which I'll definitely be picking up. For now I'm rocking Baby Baby which is a light baby pink and Funky Friday which is a brighter fuchsia pink. I think I'm gonna love these the most in the summer because of the light texture but nothings gonna stop me wearing them all year round!

Clinique Lip Pop Lipsticks!

Excuse me everyone but we've got a beauty crisis over here! Clinique have released some new lipsticks and I might love them more than my Mac ones - we have a problem! Get your purses are the ready and prepare yourself to fall in love!

These lipsticks are absolutely amazing! So much so that I just can't even. I'm kidding. What makes them so great is that they have a built in primer so they're designed to last on the lips for a really long time. They are also ridiculously pigmented and super creamy on the lips. You might think that such a creamy formula would mean they fade really fast, but they have a beautiful kind of satin finish on the lips. When the shine fades from them the colour still stays - almost like a stain but much more natural looking. They also fade really evenly which is always a bonus. Despite all this chat of fade I would say they last about 4 hours before you feel the fade kick in so they've definitely got a good amount of staying power to them. Another amazing thing is, that usually my lips get dried out really fast regardless of what brand lipstick I'm wearing or how moisturising the texture is. These lipsticks seriously keep my lips hydrated though - its amazing! So far I have 2 in my hands but I feel like I might end up with all of them before I know it.

Have you tried these lipsticks? Or have you found something better?

My DIY Ring Light // How I Made It & The Difference It Makes!

Hey guys! Recently I made my own ring light and I'm really proud of how it turned out. I've always wanted a ring light because I want to get into filming proper makeup tutorials. Natural lighting is fine, but I don't get a huge amount of light in my room so it tends to cast a lot of shadows and wash a lot of the colours out, which is annoying when you put so much effort into the makeup. I'm also not a photographer so that might have a lot to do with it too but since having my ring light I feel I can capture so much more in my images. I also made my ring light for under £40 so if you want to know how I did it I'll explain in this post!

To explain what I mean, I photographed the same eye look, first with natural light and secondly with the addition of the ring light. Below is the image with natural light and you can't really see the colours and there are a lot of shadows where my eyelid meets my brow bone.

Below is the exact same eye look, with the addition of the ring light. The eye is lit from all directions which eliminates a lot of unwanted shadows and shows the makeup properly. Admittedly its not a super dramatic eye look and it emphasises that I need to sort my eyebrows out but it works! You can see all the colours I've used and you can see all my eyelashes too!

Heres an image displaying both my eyes woo! I just love how you can see all the details!

I also took a picture in the evening when there was no natural lighting and even still I feel you can see so much detail. Usually without natural lighting I'm at a complete loss but this means I can film videos in the evening which will make my life so much easier! I think the effect that my ring light gives is no different to what a proper one would produce.. but I don't have one to compare! I'm just glad a I managed to save money to get the results that I wanted.

On to how I made the light.. I started off with a few supplies. I used some pipe insulation (which is basically a foam tube) to create the circle. I used a piece about 150cm long so that it was big enough to fit around my camera and light my face evenly. I made slits in the foam all the way long before bending it into shape. The slits were about an inch wide and about an inch deep. I cut them to the depth of half of the pipe. This means when you bend it into a circle you don't get and kinks resulting in a smooth curve. I then used duct tape to connect the pipe into the circle and added some more to give it extra support where needed. The good thing about using the foam is that its really light, which works well for connecting it to my tripod which I'll explain too. For the lights themselves, I used an LED strip light which was 5m long and wrapped evenly around the pipe. This means it shines light in all directions and lights my face without any shadows. The strip light I used had a sticky backing so all I had to do was peel off the back and stick it down. LED lights are really bright and they're also really low power and don't heat up which makes them ideal. Lastly I used a giant crocodile type clip to attach my ring light to my tripod so it can sit around my light,  I got mine from eBay and it works really well. The good thing about the LED lights that I used is that they came with a transformer and a plug, I've seen a lot of really cheap LED strip lights online but they don't come with anything like that so look out if you're buying some online! Thats pretty much it! I'm really proud of myself and hopefully this inspires you to make your own light and save some money too!

What I used:
- 5m LED Strip light, I bought mine in B&Q, I can't find the exact one online but this is as close as I could see. The ones I got were £30 and I'm sure they were by the brand Diall.   -link here

BareMinerals Loose Eyeshadows/Glimmer Eyecolour!

Hey everyone! Today I'm going to be talking about some of my new favourite eyeshadows! I got these in a set around January in the sales, I think it might have been a christmas set so I have no idea if you'll be able to still get your hands on the set but as far as I'm aware, pretty much all of the shades a permanent anyway! Let me explain why I love them..

For a long time I was pretty afraid of loose eyeshadows, mainly of dropping them and then ruining my carpet or something! But they just always seemed more intimidating than pressed shadows.. maybe its just me.. Anyway I picked up the set because all the eyeshadows are mini sizes so I thought it wouldn't be the end of the world if it didn't work out for me - but my goodness it did. The pigmentation of these shadows is so on point. Not only that they blend like a dream and you can apply them sheerly or full on. If the swatches don't impress you I don't know what will! Admittedly if I'm in a hurry I'll reach for pressed shadows over these because they can be a little messy if you're not careful but if I'm going out I know that these bad boys are seriously going to pack a punch and last all night! My favourite shade is waterlily, the gorgeous lilac on the far right of the swatches, its so pretty paired with a warm brown in the colour and a smoked out lash line!

Have you tried Bare Minerals eyeshadows?

Benefit 'Benebalm' & 'Lollibalm' Hydrating Tinted Lip Balms!

Spring is finally here, or if you're like me and you live it Scotland.. Its still cold and rainy. However, there are some brighter spells trying to break their way through. I can feel the warmer weather creeping in which makes me so excited! Its time for dewy skin and glowy makeup!

I actually got these tinted lip balms as a christmas present and I've been reaching for them quite a bit. Now that the spring weather is on its way I think its the perfect time to wear something like this. For me, spring is the time for natural looking makeup and pretty pastel hues - sounds dreamy right? I love products like this in the spring because they look so natural but can totally pull a look together as well. They're very moisturising and surprisingly long lasting despite how creamy they are. I particularly love Lollibalm, its a pretty blue toned pink that really brightens up the face! These balms are also really lovely when layered over there matching tints from benefit, it makes the colour much more intense but still really natural! I love these and highly recommend them.
